Notranjska region is covering south-western part of Slovenia. Major cities and towns are Postojna, Cerknica and Pivka. The Notranjska -  Karst region, largely covered by forests is home of the karst landscape and caves, the most famous being Postojna Cave.

Famous sights in the area include several castles: Sneznik Castle, one of the loveliest and best preserved castles in Slovenia and the Predjama Castle at one end of the famous Postojna Caves. Other attractions are the ‘intermittent” Lake Cerknica and Planina field with its regional park where most of the country’s wildlife live.

Over 70% of the Notranjska region is covered by forest, with 54% of the region is one of the special protected areas, called Natura 2000, which is characterized by its rich and perfectly preserved nature.

Cerknica lake is an intermittent lake, a mysterious place which surprises every time a man goes there. Its water level is never the same, sometimes dry, sometimes flooded.

Karst is a word for a rocky land where the water and limestone creates a special surface features, such as caves, sinkholes,  karst fields, lakes, sinkholes, underground streams..

Bike trails around Notranjska and Karst region are designed in a way that allows riders to learn about the natural and cultural heritage, so they mostly lead over side roads (gravel, tracks, meadows and forest roads).
