Buying and selling property in Slovenia

Slovenia is the most stable country in Eastern Europe, both economically and politically. Slovenia’s real estate market has been open to foreign buyers since the country joined the EU in 2004.

Since then, only a few EU Nationals have bought properties in the country. Only around 500 properties were sold to non-Slovene citizens in the first two years after the liberalization of the real estate market. The majority of buyers come from the United Kingdom, followed by Italy, Austria, and Germany .
Ljubljana and the leading coastal and mountain resorts are the most expensive parts of the country to buy in.
In 2010, the property market has stabilized at a level that confirms the Slovenian property market recovery from the crisis that has reached the bottom of the first half of 2009. If the demand for housing fell again due to continuing economic crisis and credi tcrunch, house prices will fall. This would lead to a reduction in traffic again and in slip into the housing market crisis with economic and social consequences.
If the purchasing power of households will not be reduced, banks and investors will beforced to sell the unsold housing at market-adjusted prices, the market will stabilize.
