Gorenjska region - Kranj, Bled, Bohinj, Kranjska gora

The region of high mountains, including the symbol of Slovenia, Triglav, is almost entirely Alpine. A large part of this region is protected as a national park. The relief and climate are good bases for tourism. In 2007 Gorenjska recorded almost 20% of tourist overnights in Slovenia, of which almost 80% by foreign tourists.  Although agriculture in this region is not among the most important activities, agricultural holdings are among the largest in the country both in terms of average utilised agricultural area and in terms of the number of livestock units. That manufacturing activities are the driving force of the region is shown by the fact that the share of gross value added created by these activities was 33.3% in 2006 and among the highest in the country. Population indicators indicate a favourable situation. As regards the natural increase, in 2007 Gorenjska was second, behind Osrednjeslovenska. The share of young people was among the highest in the
country (14.9%), although already lower than the share of old people (16.2%). Elementary schools in the region were among the biggest in the country – on average elementary schools were attended by 240 pupils. As regards students per 1,000 population, Gorenjska had 15 students more than Pomurska, which had the lowest number of students in the country.
In the mountains and the country’s interior, where you can enjoy the outdoors life with great opportunities for hiking, skiing, riding, cycling, climbing, water sports and golf, properties tend to be ‘Alpine style’ two-storey detached homes with steep eaves, constructed from a timber-frame with render or exposed wood, or, in more modern homes, concrete block and render.

Kranjska gora
Kranjska gora
Kranjska gora is situated in a unique location with uninterrupted panoramic views towards the rugged Julian Alps and snow capped peaks of Jalovec , slopes at Podkoren and Mojstrovka mountains. Of all of Slovenia’s many stunning landscapes, perhaps the most dramatic and best known are in the Julian Alps in the far North West of the country.
Gorenjska mountains are a true paradise for both hikers and mountain climbers alike, while cyclists can try the more demanding mountain slopes or just relax taking an enjoyable ride along the well-kept trails.

Skiers and snowboarders will find their challenge on the snow-covered slopes, while others can find their recreation on the well-kept cross-country tracks or by sledding on toboggan runs. Climbing a frozen waterfall, day and night snowshoeing, hikes with torches, snow mobiling or a ride in a reindeer driven sled are an unforgettable experience.
