Zaplana is a small village, spread in the hills about 30 kilometers west of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. Being approximately 300 meters higher than Ljubljana and the surrounding towns, the climate in Zaplana is slightly cooler than in Ljubljana, with a bit more rainfall. The Second President of Slovenia Janez Drnovšek lived and died in Zaplana.

| Rakitna |
Rakitna lies in the heart of a large karst plateau at 800 metres in the heart of the Krim – Mokriško mountains. Along the karst field runs a disappearing stream Rakitniščica. After the Second World War the springs in the upper part were dammed, creating an artificial lake, attracting numerous excursionists. In the summer swimming is possible in the lake and in the winter it is great for ice skating. Rakitna is known for its benevolent climate, a mixture of Mediterranean and Alpine currents. The village hosts a children’s health resort. Small country cottages are placed around the lake.
